Chakrapurusha
Tamil Nadu - South India - Copper alloy - 7 cm - Vijayanagar Period - 16th century
Chakrapurusha is the personification of the disc (chakra), the characteristic emblem of Vishnu.
While North Indian art he is represented simply by a disc in hand or the back of the head chakra, in the South Indian art is portrayed in a very elaborate.
This bronze Chakrapurusha has many arms holding various attributes of Vishnu on the wheel that surrounds his body.
