Lama

The figure is finely cast, seated on a lotus base with his hands in the dharmachakra – a gesture representing the teaching of the path to enlightenment.  The lama is wearing a voluminous robe with incised borders and has superb face, with full lips and heavy-lidded eyes – the statue is very likely a representation of an actual Tibetan Lama – someone who was a spiritual leader and head of a monastery who taught the dharma in Tibet.
The statue is in very good condition for its age, with expected wear. The material appears to be bronze, but it is also known that they used copper to make these types of statues.
